The difference between MCB and MCCB

When it comes to circuit breakers, two commonly used options are MCB and MCCB. While they are both used to protect electrical systems from overloads and short circuits, there are some key differences between the two products.

MCB

Miniature circuit breaker (MCB), as the name suggests, is a compact multi-function circuit breaker. Widely used in various places such as industry, commerce, high-rise buildings, and residences. MCBs are designed to provide protection for electrical terminal distribution units in buildings. There are many types and quantities of circuit breaker products, suitable for different applications.

One of the main advantages of MCB is its ability to handle a wide range of electrical parameters. It is suitable for overload and short-circuit protection of lines with AC 50/60Hz rated voltage 230/400V and rated current up to 63A. In addition, small circuit breakers can also be used for infrequent operation switching of lines under normal circumstances. This versatility makes them ideal for many electrical systems.

MCCB

On the other hand, moulded case circuit breakers (MCCB) are mainly used in low-voltage power distribution systems and motor protection circuits. It provides overload and short circuit protection. The main distinguishing feature of MCCB is its plastic casing, which acts as an insulator and isolates conductors and grounded metal parts. Due to its reliability and stability, molded case circuit breakers have been widely used in various industries.

Although both MCB and MCCB are circuit breakers, there are some key differences between them. First, they have different electrical and mechanical parameters. MCB is suitable for wires up to 10 square meters, while MCCB can connect thicker wires, such as wires above 35 square meters. This enables MCCB to handle higher capacities and currents.

Another difference is how they are connected. The terminals of the molded case circuit breaker are connected with nuts, which can be easily pressed and ensure good contact. In contrast, MCBs use smaller compression terminals that can only be tightened with a screwdriver. This difference in connection methods affects compression and contact quality.

Furthermore, MCB and MCCB have different working environments. MCBs are designed for a variety of applications, making them suitable for use in different environments. MCCB, on the other hand, is mainly used in small capacity switching applications.
