Structure of air circuit breaker(ACB)

Air circuit breaker (ACB) is an important part of low-voltage power distribution system and has the important function of closing incoming lines, busbars and other high-current circuits. Understanding the components of an air circuit breaker is essential to understanding its functionality and the various options available in the market.

The components of an air circuit breaker usually include contacts, arc extinguishing device, operating mechanism, tripping system, housing and control unit. These components work together to ensure smooth, safe operation of the circuit breaker in a variety of applications. Air circuit breakers can be divided into fixed type and drawer type according to the installation method. The fixed type uses a metal shell, is larger in size, and has a relatively low protection level. The drawer-type air circuit breaker uses engineering plastic housing, which has a more compact structure, higher protection level and easier maintenance.

The protective characteristics of air circuit breakers also vary. Depending on their protective properties, they are classified as non-selective (Category A) or selective (Category B). Class B circuit breakers usually use electronic overcurrent releases to provide long-delay, short-delay and instantaneous action protection functions. Additionally, smart air circuit breakers come with built-in microcontrollers, display units, alarm systems, self-checking capabilities, and communication capabilities. This allows them to form a monitoring system with industrial computers, providing enhanced control and monitoring capabilities.

One of the most notable features of air circuit breakers is their large capacity and high ultimate breaking capacity. For example, Mutai’s CMTW1 type circuit breaker has a rated current of up to 6300A and a rated short-time withstand current of 85KA, allowing it to provide superior selectivity and stability. It’s worth noting, however, that this level of performance comes at a price, as air circuit breakers with such excellent characteristics typically come at a higher price.

In summary, the composition of the air circuit breaker demonstrates the high level of engineering and technology required to design these critical components of a low voltage distribution system. There are many options on the market, including fixed, withdrawable, non-selective and selective circuit breakers, as well as smart versions with advanced monitoring and control features to suit a wide range of applications. While air circuit breakers with superior features may cost more, their superior performance and reliability make them a worthwhile investment to ensure the safe and efficient operation of your electrical distribution system.

Mutai Group has accumulated more than ten years of manufacturing and sales experience in circuit breakers, contactors, dual power automatic transfer switches (ATS) and related fields. We eagerly look forward to the opportunity to work with you.
